Dr. Moazzam Farooq is associated with Iqra University since spring 2012. He has been associated with the State Bank of Pakistan at senior positions since 2003 in Financial Sector Assessment, where he has remained involved in the publication of Financial Stability Reviews. Prior to State Bank, he has worked at several large financial and non-financial firms in public and private sectors of Pakistan.
After doing his BBA and MBA (Finance) from IBA, Karachi, Dr. Farooq proceeded to Netherlands where he did his M.Sc. and M.Phil in Finance from Vrije University, Amsterdam and Center Graduate School, Tilburg University respectively. Later he did his Ph.D. in Finance/Banking from the same Tilburg University, Netherlands. During his PhD, Dr. Farooq remained a Junior Fellow of the European Banking Center and spent three months as Economist in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington D.C.
Dr. Farooq’s areas of interest include Islamic Finance, Behavioral Finance and Financial Intermediation. He has presented his research work at top institutions including Harvard University, Cambridge, IMF, Washington D.C., and Bocconi University, Italy. Dr. Farooq is also a recipient of two coveted Gold Medals, one from Institute of Bankers-Pakistan and the other from State Bank of Pakistan.
